Skiing is a fantastic sport on so many levels, and it’s a healthy activity that can be enjoyed by people of all ages and abilities. It’s great fun, an excellent way to exercise during the winter months, and can be enjoyed either socially or alone. You’ll also get to enjoy wonderful scenery and the great outdoors while you do it, unless you go indoor skiing, which sounds dumb to us.
There are two types of skiing: Cross-country, which involves traveling over flat and/or hilly terrain, and Alpine, down a mountainside. Cross-country skiing tends to be more casual and can be done in groups moving at a leisurely pace, while alpine skiing is usually of shorter duration, at a potentially much more lively pace.
Beginners usually learn the sport while visiting a ski resort, which can be found the world over. Indeed, many areas and cities owe their very existence and continuing prosperity to the ski industry. And just about any place that has snow and mountains, or just big hills, will boast a couple of resorts. Here’s a handy online directory anyway.

After a bit of practice though, you’ll be ready to fall down the bigger slopes. And believe it or not, you’ll have a blast while doing it.
