Go on an African Safari

Of all the travel experiences in the world, few evoke as much anticipation and excitement as a trip to Mother Africa. This amazingly diverse continent allows you to visit a myriad of breathtaking landscapes, from gotilla inhabited high-altitude cloud forests, to megafauna filled dusty plains, or even deceptively empty looking deserts.

When traveling on a typical sub-saharan safari, most visitors hope to catch a glimpse of the ‘Big 5’ - originally a trophy hunting term - which refers to lion, elephant, cape buffalo, rhinoceros, and leopard. But with the decline of rhino populations, spotting the big 5 is becoming increasingly difficult, but there is still plenty to see. Some African animals are often quite easy to spot, we’re looking at you zebras, although many are rare and elusive, which makes for a thrilling sense of satisfaction when you are the first in your 4x4 to shout “LION!!!”

Whatever animals are highest on your wish list, and whether you see them or not, any safari is going to be rewarding and unique. If you chance to witness the thrill of a chase or kill, the sheer numbers of the great migration, or an impossibly popular and diverse watering hole, consider yourself fortunate. Going on safari is an adventure unlike any other, and one that you will cherish for the rest of your life.

When choosing your African Safari, first consider how much time you have, what you are hoping to see on your journey, and how adventurous you want to be. Most of Africa is still frustratingly difficult for solo travelers, meaning that choosing a reliable tour company is often your best bet. Notable exceptions being Namibia and South Africa, where all it takes is some planning and information to make a self-drive dream a reality.

Chobe National Park in Botswana supports the largest populations of elephants in Africa, as well as lions leopards, buffalo, hippos, crocodiles, and wild dogs.

Kruger National Park in South Africa has more species of of large mammals than any other game reserve on the continent.

For a rare glimpse of the endangered mountain gorilla, consider a trek through the cloud forest of Uganda in the Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Africa is a continent of distinct beauty with incredible opportunities for viewing wildlife. Safari adventures, tours, and treks are available throughout the year, and make for an amazing adventure beyond compare.
