Only in Paris are all of Auguste Rodin’s major sculptures beautifully displayed together. Although castings of these works are actually on display around the world; under French law, up to twelve castings of each work are allowed to exist at any given time.

Rodin is certainly best known for The Thinker. But his works range from the historic and emotional Burghers of Calais, to the romantic The Kiss, to the intimidatingly frightening The Gates of Hell.

The museum is split between two sites, the old Hotel Biron where Rodin did most of his work, and his residence outside Paris. He donated his works and his personal collection of art created by others, to the city on the condition that the two buildings be used as a joint museum. In all, the collection displays 6,600 sculptures and many other works such as drawings, photographs, and paintings including works by Monet, Renoir, and van Gogh.

The museum makes excellent use of an extensive garden to display many of Rodin's sculptures in an outdoor natural setting. Visitors also have access to a library and reading room.
