Established in 1872, this is the oldest and largest art museum in Japan, with five exhibition buildings displaying antiquities from across Asia. The Tokyo National Museum also conducts thorough research on their collection of more than 110,000 books, ancient pottery, religious sculptures, arms and armor, rubbings, and photographs in order to provide information to scholars. Not a scholar? Don’t worry, plenty of that information is on display for regular visitors too.
