Founded by Abby Rockefeller, the MoMA, which is a more edgy and appropriate title than its stodgy full name, is the preeminent modern art museum in the world. Located in the center of Manhattan, on 53rd street between 5th & 6th avenues, on land begrudgingly donated by Abby’s husband, John D. Rockefeller, Jr.
If you find yourself viewing an exhibit and thinking “my five year old could have done that”, then maybe you ought to read ‘Your Five-Year-Old Could Not Have Done That’ by Susie Hodge. According to her logic, ironically enough, your five-year-old actually COULD have done quite a bit of that, but not with the same depth of understanding and intent. So, whatever that means.
Whether you think modern art is silly or not, the MoMA is still more than worthy of a visit. Its collection includes plenty of traditional artistic gems, such as van Gogh’s ‘The Starry Night’, Dali’s ‘The Persistence of Memory’, and even a ‘Water Lilies’ triptych by Monet.
