There are a variety of qualities and traits (not weight related) that we associate with Santa: giving, caring, familial, kind, the list goes on. Old Saint Nick is perceived to be so wholesome in fact, that parents nationwide participate in the uber-creepy tradition of having their children sit on some strange guy’s lap at the mall every year for a photo. But would parents be so trusting if they knew what Santa was like when the sun went down? Probably not.
Started over 20 years ago in San Francisco, SantaCon now takes place every December (dates vary) in dozens of cities across the globe. Revelers don their best Santa costume and proceed to drink away the anxiety associated with having to deliver toys to over 100 million homes in only one night. Unsurprisingly that is a pretty stressful task, so Santa (and a few dozen or hundred clones) needs to drink a lot. What we’re saying is, mall Santa lap sitting is a creepy enough tradition, but unless you’re over eighteen and on the naughty list, you definitely don’t want to sit on SantaCon Santa’s lap.
Although SantaCon gatherings are held across the globe, one of the biggest and most extravagant is in New York City. SantaCon is open to the public and generally free. However, some local organizers may ask for contributions to help assist in securing venues for the festivities.
